Visitors should plan to spend a day (or night) aboard the USS Lexington, the oldest and most decorated aircraft carrier in the world, which holds the world record for distance traveled. Housed in a converted aircraft carrier, the museum has stories of its past, including the nickname ‘Blue Ghost’. The name was given because the Japanese claimed to have sunk ships only four times during World War II before rising again from the depths of the sea.
These days, guests can enjoy escape rooms, flight simulations, 3D movies, guided and self-guided tours, virtual battle stations, overnight camps, and more. The most popular tour, however, is the self-guided flight deck tour from the National Air Museum, which offers an up-close look at his 20 aircraft, navigation bridges, planks, anti-aircraft guns, and more.
