Perhaps the best counter service restaurant in all of Walt Disney World is in Animal Kingdom. A wonderful Pandora-themed area offers the Satu’li Canteen. This place serves non-traditional theme park food. I always give more points to places with non-traditional food. Love burgers, fries, pizza and chicken tenders . Still, it gets old quickly during a week-long theme park vacation.
However, Satu’li Canteen offers a taste of theme park food with a twist known as cheeseburger steamed pods. Bao bang style pods offer a non-traditional type of menu item that even picky eaters will enjoy. These are a great option for diners who don’t want to build their own style bowls with the Satu’li Canteen.
According to the menu description, it’s a steamed cheeseburger pod stuffed with ground beef, ketchup, mustard, pickles, and cheddar cheese. The pod comes with crunchy vegetable coleslaw and vegetable chips. This entree was $12.79. Adult entrees come with two bao buns. The kids version comes with one knife. For full disclosure, I’ve started this review a few times in the last year or so. Presumably, the price increase will stop once this is published.
So how do these pods and sides taste? The simplest explanation is to compare the pods to a McDonald’s cheeseburger in a boa bun. Eating two makes me feel better. These buns offer a strong seasoned beef flavor. The cheese works too, and thankfully the pickles have very little flavor. For example, some guests are completely unaware that they are there. These bao buns serve as counter service locations within the park for many seasoned Walt Disney World visitors.
Aspects are useful, but they don’t act as special. There are usually 3 types of chips. The sweet potato chips taste above average (if you like sweet potatoes). The house made chips tasted like standard Walt Disney World chips (good but not great). Blue tortilla his style chips have average flavor. But the slaw provides a solid flavor. Don’t worry if you don’t like vinegar-based coleslaw. This same coleslaw is on the inside of the bao bun, adding more positive flavor than the outside of the bao bun. I recommend getting both to see which you prefer.
Satu’li Canteen’s indoor theme may not overwhelm you. But the food will be in this price range. Another helpful tip about dining here. You can get free refills of soft drinks while you eat here. This place can be a good place to relax, unwind, and have dessert during your meal.
As always, eat like you mean it!
