Early on Sunday, Star defensive tackle Fabian Lovett officially announced his decision to return to Tallahassee for next season. But that wasn’t the only good news for the day.
A few hours later, former Virginia cornerback Fentrell Cypress, one of the top players on the NCAA transfer portal, announced he was moving to Florida to qualify for LSU, UCLA, and other colleges. Cypress is an elite prospect that the Seminoles have been eyeing over the past few weeks.
Head coach Mike Nobel commented shortly after Cypress’ addition was made official.

The South Carolina native made an official visit to the campus of Florida State University towards the end of December. Cypress was able to meet his coaching staff in person and watch the Seminoles break ground on the soccer-specific facility, among other activities.

“It matched a lot of what I was looking for,” Cypress previously said. “The history of FSU, where they are going now, that is what interests me.
The Seminoles have a long history of deploying defensive backs in the NFL, and their numbers will follow in the 2023 NFL Draft with star safety Jammy Robinson. Cypress thinks he could be the next man.
“Florida State University can be considered a DBU, and that’s a big deal,” Cypress said. “Coaching and his staff who are here today are still continuing that journey and its history, teaching everyone everything they need to know. I could see myself being built.”
The 6-foot, 184-pound cornerback is expected to have two seasons remaining in college-level qualification. He appeared in 18 games and made 15 starts during his four-year career with Virginia, with Cypress totaling 57 tackles, 0.5 of his losses, 0.5 sacks, 15 pass deflections and an interception against the Cavaliers. did
Cypress is the seventh transferee to move to Florida during the hiring cycle. The Seminoles also have former Miami defensive tackle Darrell Jackson, former South Carolina tight end Jaheim Bell, former Shorter tight end Kyle Morlock, former Colorado offensive lineman Casey Roddick, and former UTEP offensive lineman Jeremiah Byers. , former Auburn offensive lineman Keion Dollar Jones and West Michigan defensive lineman Braden Fisk.
