Chinese Sichuan-style noodle dishes are growing in popularity at theme parks around Orlando. This dandan noodles appeared on the menu of Skippers Canteen at Walt Disney World. It was also created for his two different Passholder Perks seasons at his Confisco Grille at Universal Orlando. In this article, we compare the two in a food battle to see who can serve the tastier dandan noodles.
These styles of noodles were added this summer at the Jungle Navigation Co. LTD Skipper Canteen restaurant at the Magic Kingdom. Appropriately themed for this place, they call them Skipper Dan’s Dandan Noodles. The menu description reads, “Thin noodles topped with crispy pork, pickled mustard greens, radishes and cucumbers, tossed in a fragrant spicy chili sauce.” These cost $26. For theme park meals, these offer a nice level of spice. Pork is well cooked and well flavored. Some guests find the texture of this noodle dish undesirable. For a $26 entree, I think the portion size should be increased. works well.
Well, Universal Orlando, how about your dandan noodles? I wrote his review back in May, but these first appeared at his Confisco Grille’s Mini Passholder Day event. As for the price, these noodles are $21.95. The Universal Orlando version has a price advantage as some passholders receive a 15% discount over the standard 10%. Dan Danmen’s menu description states spicy Sichuan-style noodles, chili-flavored beef, preserved vegetables, toasted peanuts, and scallions. This description indicates changes from the May 2022 edition. However, the taste of these noodles lacks the consistency of the Magic Kingdom version. The Universal version of beef lacks flavor qualities compared to the Disney version of Pork. However, the Universal version offers more broth compared to the Disney version.
So who will win this food battle?
The battle seems to follow a consistent pattern of dining between Universal Orlando and Walt Disney World. Universal foods are generally less expensive in direct comparison. Portion sizes tend to be larger at Universal. Still, I think Confisco Grill’s portion sizes should be large, so the portion size advantage in this case seems smaller than usual. As mentioned earlier, the pork flavor dominates the beef flavor. Although they are different types of proteins, Disney table service preparations tend to be superior to Universal preparations when compared directly. depends on
In my opinion Disney wins this time even if the price is $5 more. The taste and quality of Skipper Dan’s dandan noodles win a higher price point. In this case you get what you pay for. Usually, comparable food at Walt Disney World loses these battles due to price differences.
As always, eat like you mean it!
