Scheduling such overhauls is a major undertaking as much of the park needs to remain open to fully entertain guests during the month. Closing means other attractions get more patrons during those down times.
But on rare occasions, attractions may be unavailable for years, not just weeks or months.
The Walt Disney Railroad is back for the holidays
After being closed for more than four years, the Walt Disney Railroad announced it was officially reopening on December 23rd.
It was out of service for a long time as the route was interrupted by the construction of major new attractions.
“Listen to the roar of the engines, the whistle of the wheels and the whistles of the whistles as you travel aboard the Walt Disney World Railroad,” the company writes on its website. Take a seat in one of four meticulously restored vintage narrow-gauge steam trains that have been built for a 20-minute scenic 1.5-mile round-trip tour.
The Walt Disney World Railroad was in operation the day the park opened on October 1, 1971. At that time he had only one station. Other stops are added regularly.
This railway operates four trains. Disney purchased his 1969 locomotive and restored it for use in the park.

Disney opens new roller coaster
A new attraction that has kept trains from running for more than four years has been the construction of a new roller coaster, the Tron Lightcycle/Run, due to open this spring.
According to Disney, the ride is based on the 1982 Disney film Tron and is the first to combine live-action with computer-generated visuals and backlight animation.
“Lean into the ultimate race of survival!” writes the company on its website. “Leave the real world behind and join Team Blue on an epic grid-traversing quest in a dark, computerized world with no Tron sight.”
The roller coaster is modeled after an existing roller coaster at the company’s Shanghai facility and is one of the fastest at any Disney theme park in the world.
