Ka’ana Wave Co. and its new machine.
One thing we can always count on? Humans keep trying to find ways to surf where there are no waves. Join Ka’ana Wave Co., the latest in artificial wave racing. Ka’ana recently launched a deep-sea standing wave machine at a party in Britannia Beach, Columbia, just south of Whistler.
According to the company, its CM7 series produces multiple waveforms at depths of four feet or more. The company says it wants to place rigs in new and existing pools and lagoons to attract novice surfers. This technology actually resembles a surf boat wake. Even boogie boarders and kayakers are experimenting with this technique.
Ka’ana recently unveiled the wave at a “beach pop-up” and over 250 riders put the pace to the test.
This is certainly not the first mobile standing wave. In 2018, UNIT Surf Pools introduced mobile deep-sea waves. The design is based on Munich’s “Eisbach” waves and other river features. It’s a lot like City Wave (which introduced a new standing wave in 2020 in Lake, Washington, his Chelan). The UNIT creation is also mobile and was developed by his UNIT Parktech that manufactures wakeboard functionality. A French company, Hydrostadium, is another of his brands currently stepping into mobile wave technology.
Ka’ana’s machine, the XS CM7 series, calls for a 4-foot-deep, 40-foot-by-30-foot pool and produces waist-high waves. Ka’ana Wave Co. claims the XL also offers overhead surf. we will see
