Last November, on our quarterly earnings call, we reported on an unpopular comment from Walt Disney Company CFO Christine McCarthy. After the Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort announced they were cutting portion sizes at meals to save money, McCarthy said the change was “good for some people’s waistlines.”

Many Disney Parks fans were offended by these comments. Fans are already noticing a decline in portion sizes at Disney parks, with many reporting that the quality of the food has declined as prices have risen.

Shay Spence (@theshayspence), an avid Disney Parks fan and self-professed “professional glutton”, explored the food at Walt Disney World Resort in a video about the 5 worst things he tried at Florida Disney Parks this week. We shared our thoughts on quality. 2022:
@theshayspence Worst food I had at Disney this year (I don’t usually post about things I don’t like, but thought it might be helpful 😅) #disneyfood #disneyworld #disneyadult #space220 #foodtiktok #themeparks #foodreview

However, not everything is negative. Spence provided a delicious alternative for each lousy review!
Spence started with a salmon entree at Space 220, a fine dining restaurant operated by EPCOT’s third party. He said it was “bland” and recommended the steak, albeit with a modified recipe.Even better, Spence made a reservation at the Space 220 Lounge and had fried cauliflower and blue cheese. Suggested saving money on his menu by ordering a flour of the prix fixe.

Spence then shared a poor experience at Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
“I really like eating here. I have a soft spot for it. I love Muppets. I love this theme,” said Spence. “But the Margareta flatbread is a definite no to me, sorry. The crust is kind of cardboard. Just the wrong ratio of sauce to toppings.”

Instead, Spence suggested ordering the Chicken Parmesan.For those pizza-obsessed, he suggested going to Via Naples at EPCOT or Pizza Ponte at Disney Springs.
Spence chose churros from all the Magic Kingdom carts as the third worst of Walt Disney World’s dishes. not.”

There is one exception. Nomad at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Her lounge serves gluten-free churros, which Spence described as “great.” He also recommended the fried cinnamon rolls from the EPCOT International Flower and Garden Festival.
Also in Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Spence told us to avoid the Eight Spoon Cafe’s pulled pork jelly donut sandwich, a walk-up food kiosk. suggested going to the Flame Tree BBQ.

Spence’s “most tragic choice” was Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park, which is currently closed for renovations. He told me to avoid Crableless Crab Cakes.

“We couldn’t decipher the ingredients in this,” Spence said. “It was bland mash with an unnecessary mango chutney on top.”

Spence recommended Plant-Based Bratwurst for better plant-based meals at the water park. “But to be honest, I’m a little picky about sweets at Typhoon Lagoon.”
Do you agree with Spence’s choice? The worst Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort food of 2022?
