It is no exaggeration to say that water sports will become more environmentally friendly in the future. Thanks to Ingenuity Electric for rolling the water ball.
The electric propulsion company has partnered with Nautique Boat Company to develop the Super Air Nautique GS22E, the world’s first fully electric towed boat. Designed specifically for towing skiers, wakeboarders and wakesurfers, our battery-powered craft delivers all the torque needed for these activities without emitting any harmful emissions.
Based on the popular petrol-powered Super Air Nautic GS22, the GS22E looks like a classic surfboard. Measuring 22 feet long, it has a sleek, sporty design perfect for cutting water. The fully customizable interior has space for up to 11 people and includes Nautique’s folding flight control tower tow gear, transom seat and strapless board rack.
The two GS22s may look alike, but the powertrains couldn’t be more different. The GS22E is propelled by an electronic drive system designed by Ingenuity. Fitting seamlessly into the body of the boat, the system draws power from a high-density 120kW/hr battery pack to deliver instant torque. The companies haven’t shared performance numbers, but the boat has enough power to tow wakeboarders and wakesurfers for hours at a time, and is suitable for years of primary use. I promise.
Of course, zero emissions comes at a price. In this case it’s time. If he likes to spend the day on the lake, the GS22E is still not the right boat for you as he can only run 2-3 hours at a time. As for charging, the boat takes him 10 hours when plugged into an AC outlet, 4 hours when he’s plugged into a DC outlet, and just an hour and a half when plugged into a supercharger. If you’re serious about water sports, you’ll want to consider a supercharger.
Of course, the world’s first battery-powered towboat doesn’t come cheap. Starting at $292,711. You can pre-order now from his website at Nautique. If you want to try it out before you go, Homewood He High & Dry Marina on Lake Tahoe will have motorized watercraft available this summer.
