Brooklyn-based punk band Surfboat have released a new music video for their visceral single “FML,” ahead of their new album release and several live shows. Featuring Fred Armisen, the video plays a bright, zany role in contrast to the single’s apathetic, morbid themes.
“I believe in surfboards. They’re everything I want in a band,” says Armisen. I love their music both on record and live. just right chaos. And their aesthetic sense is amazing to watch. Excited that they exist. I love surf boats! “
As the band members deal with frustrating and mundane annoyances throughout the video, Armisen magically repairs guitar strings, Chihuahua necks, and reminds bandmates not to step on dog poop. You’re there to give them a little cheer by helping them out. , eventually replacing each band member with themselves, rocking out with a hilarious ending.
“This video is about how severe depression and suicidal tendencies are so common, you’re not the only one depressed, and there are ways to get over that kind of earth-shaking headspace,” Miller said. Says, “So hold on tight to others and have better days. Mental health is so important. Whether you’re an artist, a drug addict/alcoholic, or even a bipolar disorder. I have had suicidal thoughts many times in the past, and so have my bandmates.I think it’s normal for so many people in this society to be so depressed. My aunt committed suicide. I wish I could go back in time and Fred Armisen could show up and make her day better and change her perspective the moment she felt like the world was over. is such a nice guy and his humor is inspiring and soothing, so I thought it would be perfect if he could become a superhero and turn everyone’s day around in this video. When he did, he was supposed to attend the premiere that night, but he stayed extra, became every band member, and even knew how to play songs on every instrument. With classic makeup, I was like having the coolest twins ever for 20 minutes.”
