Investigators say the driver, 47-year-old James Cook IV, has died. A passenger, whose identity has not been identified at this time, also died in the crash. No one else was hurt.
Detectives said the car was traveling south on South Flagler Drive at high speed just before midnight when it attempted to pass and veered into the northbound lane, according to detectives. At that point police say the car lost control and hit a curb before hitting a palm tree. The car then crashed into the concrete wall in front of the house and burst into flames.

Firefighters were able to put out the fire as soon as they arrived. The road was blocked for several hours after the accident.
“What really breaks my heart is the fact that this could have been prevented. Now two people have passed away. Their families lost loved ones over the holidays, but only It was all over in an instant.” Information Officer, West Palm Beach Police Department.
The coroner’s office will conduct an autopsy on the driver and passenger to determine whether alcohol or drugs contributed to the accident, police said.
