It’s no exaggeration to say that a trip to Walt Disney World today is a lot different than it was just a few years ago. While there are always new attractions coming to Disney World, many of the recent resort changes have been in the way guests visit parks and hotels, and the resurrection of old Disney World promo videos has left fans wondering what’s changed. I’m lamenting that I’m in a big way.
This video is about 3 minutes long in total and is a musical pitch. It uses a mix of classic Disney song melodies and new lyrics to give people all the great perks of staying at a Walt Disney World resort hotel (Extra Magic Hours, free his MagicBands, etc.).The catch is that basically everything sold old video of the year is no longer available, and fans are bemoaning the fact that a trip to Disney World isn’t what it used to be.

This video is really fun. Watch it in context and you might get excited about all the cool things you can do on your Disney World resort vacation. Unfortunately Disney’s Magical Express is gone, so the option to go to the resort on your own is gone. There are alternative bus systems, but they are not free. The MagicBand is still there, and it’s actually pretty cool, but you can no longer get the MagicBand for free if you’re staying at a Disney property.
@RobertIger, we pay more for much less. Genie+ for $15 a day, but only one ride per day. No magic bands, no transportation. No need to move your luggage to the hotel. #WaltDisneyWorld https://t.co/lyx4UHx8ARDecember 2, 2022
Portions of the video are dedicated to FastPass+, a system that allows guests to skip certain lines at certain Disney World attractions. I was able to book that time even earlier. It has since been replaced by Genie+, which is no longer free. Disney hotel guests get early access to Lightning Lane reservations, but they only have a few hours.
I’ve never seen it before, but now I want to cry🥹November 23, 2022
Traveling to Walt Disney World has never been cheap, but looking back just a few years ago, we can see that Disney World no longer offers its guests what it used to offer. It would be one thing if Disney hotel rooms were significantly cheaper to balance the additional costs of these no longer free services, but that’s certainly not the case and fans have a lot to say about the change. I have the idea of
Disney newbies, this is Disney. No more staring at your phone all day desperately looking for a Genie+ or Lightning Lanes reservation. Get your real money’s worth.November 25, 2022
Large-scale decisions of this sort are rarely taken a step back, so these free services are unlikely to return. I hope to undo some of the damage done. And who knows? it can happen. Perhaps in the future, new perks will be added to the Walt Disney World experience to help guests feel special again.
